Management style

The style Persuasive

Combines strong structure with relational support: explains, follows up, recognises and pushes development.

This is a PIMPmyBOSS archetype of management behaviours. A real manager remains a mix of five components, never a single box.

If this style appears in a result

Look at what the person opposite actually experiences, not only the style name.

The style describes a combination of behaviours. Compatibility then depends on employee preferences, while relationship quality remains a separate layer.

You combine strong structure with substantial explanation and support.

Follow-up is not only about control: it also enables correction, recognition and development.

You can keep the decision while spending time building commitment.

Challenge is often high, with more visible signs of support.

You make expectations explicit and often explain why they matter.

What this style can look like in real work

01

High direction and follow-up

Explains the why while staying closely involved in the how.

02

High recognition and development

Follows execution and uses feedback to develop capability.

03

Limited delegation

Readily recognises individual contributions.

04

Challenge is often high

Keeps control over a significant share of decisions and structure.

Strength and watch-out

What this style makes very clear. What may need adjustment.

+Where this style helps

When this style creates clarity

  • High direction and follow-upYou combine strong structure with substantial explanation and support.
  • High recognition and developmentFollow-up is not only about control: it also enables correction, recognition and development.
  • Limited delegationYou can keep the decision while spending time building commitment.
Work example

Structure and frequent feedback can secure learning if autonomy then grows with mastery.

↔Watch-outs

When the same dosage becomes costly

  • The intention to help can turn into over-prescription when the person already masters the subject
  • Mainly expects autonomy
  • Follows execution and uses feedback to develop capability.
Work example

Explaining purpose and recognising progress prevents challenge from feeling like mere pressure.

Three management situations

The value of the style also depends on the moment

Skill building

Structure and frequent feedback can secure learning if autonomy then grows with mastery.

Demanding goal

Explaining purpose and recognising progress prevents challenge from feeling like mere pressure.

Experienced expert

Support needs to be able to step back when it no longer adds value.

The relationship matters

What can align. What can diverge.

When it can feel very readable

Can fit profiles that expect structure, guidance and recognition while still accepting strong challenge.

When adjustment can help

Can diverge when the person mainly wants broad autonomy, little follow-up or full control over the method.

Do not confuse it with

A style describes behaviours. It does not judge the manager.

01

It is not about “selling” every decision. Explanation can be short and factual.

02

It is not necessarily softer than Directive: direction and follow-up remain high.

03

It does not guarantee commitment. Support can feel too present depending on the profile opposite.

Hersey & Blanchard — Situational LeadershipA situational family
The Hersey–Blanchard situational family popularised the idea that management behaviour must be read with the situation and the level of autonomy or support required. PIMPmyBOSS uses it as a behavioural reference, not as one official academic taxonomy.Open source ↗
London & Smither (2002)Feedback orientation and culture
This work describes receptivity to feedback and the culture that helps people seek, understand and use it. It supports specific, non-threatening feedback that can guide change rather than a one-off verdict.Open source ↗
Ryan & Deci (2000)Autonomy, competence, relatedness
Self-determination theory describes autonomy, competence and relatedness as three psychological needs supporting motivation and self-regulation. PIMPmyBOSS uses this as a reference point, never as a personality typology.Open source ↗

What PIMPmyBOSS measures

Perceived behaviours, not a personality

The lived-management questionnaire observes ten behaviours. The server measures how close the ten answers are to each of the five centres, then normalises those proximities into five shares totalling exactly 100%. Compatibility, relationship quality and lived score then remain three separate readings.

10 observed dimensionsConsultation, Recognition, Development, Perspective, Stimulation, Adjustment, Delegation, Direction, Follow-up, Challenge.
5 visible componentsThe result is a full distribution, never a single box.
Server-only scoringThe browser displays the result; it calculates neither profile nor compatibility.
See the real relationship

A style alone does not tell you whether the relationship works.

PIMPmyBOSS compares employee preferences with the management behaviours actually experienced.
