The profile Pilot

Prefers to stay in control of execution: high autonomy, demanding goals and little need for follow-up or co-construction.

This is a proprietary PIMPmyBOSS archetype. Your real profile is always a mix of five components, never a single box.

If you came here from your profile

Look for situations you recognise, not a perfect label.

This page describes a theoretical reference point. What matters for you is the mix actually calculated in My space.

You often prefer a clear outcome followed by freedom to choose how to reach it.

Very frequent follow-up can cost more than it helps when the subject is mastered.

You may readily take on demanding responsibility when the scope is clear.

Coordination meetings are useful when they genuinely unblock the work.

Real autonomy is more motivating than autonomy that is announced but constantly taken back.

Day to day

What this component can look like at work

01

Very high autonomy

A clear outcome can be enough to get moving without frequent check-ins.

02

Comfort with strong challenge

It prefers choosing the method once the expected result is understood.

03

Low need for follow-up

Repeated coordination meetings can feel costly when they add little.

04

Coordination meetings are useful when they

A demanding challenge can feel like a sign of trust rather than pressure.

Energy and cost

What creates momentum. What can require more effort.

+What supports it

When the right conditions are there

  • Very high autonomyYou often prefer a clear outcome followed by freedom to choose how to reach it.
  • Comfort with strong challengeVery frequent follow-up can cost more than it helps when the subject is mastered.
  • Low need for follow-upYou may readily take on demanding responsibility when the scope is clear.
Work example

Clarifying the outcome and non-negotiable constraints often works better than a detailed plan.

↔Watch-outs

When energy disperses

  • Micro-follow-up
  • Mandatory consultation on every detail
  • Prescribed methods when the outcome already provides enough structure
Work example

A focused check-in at the right moment can work very well; constant verification much less so.

The same profile does not respond the same way in every context

New mission

Clarifying the outcome and non-negotiable constraints often works better than a detailed plan.

Follow-up

A focused check-in at the right moment can work very well; constant verification much less so.

Urgency

Autonomy can remain high if priorities and responsibilities are explicit.

The relationship matters

What can align. What can diverge.

When it can feel very readable

Management that sets the destination and then leaves genuine autonomy can make work very fluid.

When adjustment can help

Divergence can appear with close monitoring, imposed consultation or detailed methods where the person mainly expects an outcome.

Theoretical reference

With manager-type profiles, how do the theoretical centres meet?

Do not confuse it with

A work reference point is not a psychological portrait.

01

It is not rejecting all coordination. You mainly want it to have visible usefulness.

02

It is not choosing to work alone on principle. Autonomy is first about how you act.

03

It is not disliking structure. You can want a precise destination without a precise instruction manual.

These references do not explain “who you are”. They illuminate work mechanisms used by this reference point and the limits that should remain visible.

Ryan & Deci (2000)Autonomy, competence, relatedness
Self-determination theory describes autonomy, competence and relatedness as three psychological needs supporting motivation and self-regulation. PIMPmyBOSS uses this as a reference point, never as a personality typology.Open source ↗
Karasek (1979)Demands and decision latitude
The demand–decision latitude model shows that demands cannot be read in isolation: high demands combined with low decision latitude can increase strain. It does not imply that more autonomy is always better.Open source ↗
Uhl-Bien & Arena (2018)Adaptability rather than one fixed style
Their leadership-for-adaptability framework focuses on conditions that help people and organisations adjust in dynamic environments. PIMPmyBOSS takes from this the logic of flexibility rather than one universal style.Open source ↗

What PIMPmyBOSS measures

A work preference, not a personality

The employee questionnaire observes ten work preferences. The server measures how close the ten answers are to each of the five centres, then normalises those proximities into five shares totalling exactly 100%.

10 observed dimensionsStructure, Check-ins, Recognition, Cooperation, Stability, Guidance, Intensity, Exploration, Purpose, Autonomy.
5 visible componentsThe result is a full distribution, never a single box.
Server-only scoringThe browser displays the result; it calculates neither profile nor compatibility.
