The profile Collective

Builds strongly through interaction: check-ins, cooperation, recognition and shared reference points matter more than maximum autonomy.

This is a proprietary PIMPmyBOSS archetype. Your real profile is always a mix of five components, never a single box.

If you came here from your profile

Look for situations you recognise, not a perfect label.

This page describes a theoretical reference point. What matters for you is the mix actually calculated in My space.

You build more easily when interaction is part of the work, not merely reporting.

Regular check-ins can create security rather than feel controlling.

Recognition of contribution to the group matters as much as the individual outcome.

High autonomy without shared reference points can sometimes feel more like abandonment than trust.

You may prefer building a solution with others before carrying it alone.

Day to day

What this component can look like at work

01

Very high interaction and cooperation

It often prefers building a solution with others rather than working in isolation for long periods.

02

Strong guidance and purpose

Regular check-ins can create security rather than feel controlling.

03

More structured autonomy

Recognition of the role played in the group matters particularly.

04

High autonomy without shared reference points

High autonomy without shared reference points can sometimes feel like being left alone.

Energy and cost

What creates momentum. What can require more effort.

+What supports it

When the right conditions are there

  • Very high interaction and cooperationYou build more easily when interaction is part of the work, not merely reporting.
  • Strong guidance and purposeRegular check-ins can create security rather than feel controlling.
  • More structured autonomyRecognition of contribution to the group matters as much as the individual outcome.
Work example

An explicit consultation moment, even a short one, can strongly improve commitment and execution quality.

↔Watch-outs

When energy disperses

  • Very broad delegation with few touchpoints
  • Decisions with little consultation
  • Isolation presented as autonomy
Work example

Saying who remains available and when prevents autonomy from turning into loss of connection.

Decision

An explicit consultation moment, even a short one, can strongly improve commitment and execution quality.

Delegation

Saying who remains available and when prevents autonomy from turning into loss of connection.

Recognition

Naming the contribution to a collective result can matter more than generic praise.

The relationship matters

What can align. What can diverge.

When it can feel very readable

Management that consults, gives guidance, recognises contributions and keeps contact can make the relationship very readable.

When adjustment can help

Divergence can appear with very broad delegation and few touchpoints, little consultation or recognition focused only on individual output.

Theoretical reference

With manager-type profiles, how do the theoretical centres meet?

Index calculated only between the active theoretical centres. It is not a prediction of success, a relationship-quality score or your personal result.

Do not confuse it with

A work reference point is not a psychological portrait.

01

It is not needing consensus on everything. Consultation can be short and highly structured.

02

It is not lacking autonomy. The issue is keeping useful connection and reference points.

03

It is not prioritising relationships over results. Collective work can be precisely how the result is achieved.

These references do not explain “who you are”. They illuminate work mechanisms used by this reference point and the limits that should remain visible.

Ryan & Deci (2000)Autonomy, competence, relatedness
Self-determination theory describes autonomy, competence and relatedness as three psychological needs supporting motivation and self-regulation. PIMPmyBOSS uses this as a reference point, never as a personality typology.Open source ↗
Detert & Edmondson (2011)Speaking up can feel risky
The authors show that implicit beliefs can lead employees to self-censor even when they intend to help the organisation. This helps explain why protected voice matters in PIMPmyBOSS.Open source ↗
London & Smither (2002)Feedback orientation and culture
This work describes receptivity to feedback and the culture that helps people seek, understand and use it. It supports specific, non-threatening feedback that can guide change rather than a one-off verdict.Open source ↗

What PIMPmyBOSS measures

A work preference, not a personality

The employee questionnaire observes ten work preferences. The server measures how close the ten answers are to each of the five centres, then normalises those proximities into five shares totalling exactly 100%.

10 observed dimensionsStructure, Check-ins, Recognition, Cooperation, Stability, Guidance, Intensity, Exploration, Purpose, Autonomy.
5 visible componentsThe result is a full distribution, never a single box.
Server-only scoringThe browser displays the result; it calculates neither profile nor compatibility.
